14 Jun 2010
Playing golf and sampling local food and wine are among the most popular experiences on offer to British tourists in Bordeaux, according to a tourism industry spokeswoman.
Apolline Belondrade of Bordeaux Tourisme identified Margaux Golf as one of the leading courses in the region, with spa facilities available to people who are not tempted by the prospect of playing a few holes.
Ms Belondrade also encouraged holidaymakers to visit Comptoir Bordelais, a shop located next to the Grand Theatre, to pick up some of the region's best food and wine.
She added: 'It's impossible to leave Bordeaux without tasting its oysters.
'For the freshest ones in nice and simple surroundings, don't hesitate to go to "La Boite a Huitre" in the centre of Bordeaux.'
Located in south-west France, Bordeaux is the capital of the Aquitaine region, which encompasses the Dordogne.
British Airways, easyJet, KLM and several other carriers operate flights to Bordeaux.
