People planning to take a holiday in England this summer might be interested in paying a visit to Shropshire to attend a special event.

Blists Hill Victorian Town, which is part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums complex, will host an Alice in Wonderland-themed weekend on 31 July and 1 August.

Visitors will be able to get into the spirit of the occasion by coming dressed as the title character or another well-known figure from the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Those in fancy dress will be able to join in with the Mad Hatter's tea party and will also be in with a chance of having their picture taken by professional photographer Roland Percy Smitheman.

Actors at Blists Hill Victorian Town will portray a number of characters from the famous story, inviting visitors to play croquet with the Queen of Hearts and attend the trial of the Knave of Hearts.

The historic attraction will also host a detective weekend on 14 and 15 August, which will offer the opportunity for guests to assist Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson in an investigation of a mysterious crime.
