Travellers set to benefit from pound's resurgence against euro
30 Jun 2010

British travellers planning a trip to a eurozone country this year will see the benefit of a recent rise in the value of the pound against the single European currency.

The euro has weakened following wider economic problems across the continent, meaning the pound has reached a 19-month high of 1.24 euros.

This is sterling's highest level since the beginning of the economic downturn in November 2008.

UK consumers are expected to see the benefit of the trend during breaks in the eurozone, with savings of up to £700 for a family of four taking a two-week Mediterranean holiday.

A spokesman for industry association Abta told the Daily Express: 'The pound has been steadily gaining in value against the euro for the last few months, which is great news for millions of UK holidaymakers as we head for the peak summer months.

'Holidaymakers are in for a very pleasant surprise when they find out just how far their hard-earned cash can go in many of our favourite foreign holiday spots.'
