London attractions prove popular in June
30 Jul 2010
The number of people visiting London's attractions in June increased at the highest rate since September 2009, according to official figures.
Visit London's Attraction Monitor showed that 6.3% more people visited popular sites around the capital last month than in June 2009.
Paid-for attractions saw a 40% increase in guest numbers, while smaller locations reported year-on-year growth of 21.6%.
The figures benefited from factors including a long spell of warm weather and the spring half-term period falling later in the year than usual.
A total of 34 attractions were surveyed for the report, including the London Eye, St Paul's Cathedral, the British Museum and the National Gallery.
Visit London chief executive Sally Chatterjee said: 'The recent Attraction Monitor figures show that London remains a popular choice for holidaymakers and the strong performance of our paid-for attractions in particular shows that London's offering continues to drive visitors to the capital.'
People visiting the capital in the coming years are expected to benefit from some £11bn of investment ahead of the 2012 Olympics.
