10 Aug 2010

People with a passion for modern art will have the opportunity to visit an exhibition during breaks in Dubrovnik on Croatia's Dalmatian coast this year.

The display, entitled Alberto Giacometti - The Sculptor of 20th Century Soul, opened at Dubrovnik Art Gallery in June and will continue until 3 October.

It features approximately 160 artworks by Giacometti, who was one of the most popular and influential artists of the 20th century.

In addition to his distinctive sculptures, the exhibition includes a range of paintings, lithographs and drawings that represent the artist's output between the years of 1949 and 1965.

An insight into the sculptor's life and methods of working is provided by a selection of around 20 images by Ernst Scheideger, a famous Swiss photographer and Giacometti's lifelong friend.

The Dubrovnik Art Gallery exhibition was organised in collaboration with Kunsthaus Zurich and the Foundation Giacometti.

Holidaymakers can visit many other attractions in the Croatian city, such as the recently reopened cable car on Mount Srd.
