New York on track for record year
12 Aug 2010

New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has revealed that the city's tourism industry is on track for a record year in 2010.

Joined at a ceremony in City Hall by representatives from NYC & Company and Delta Airlines, Mr Bloomberg announced that the Big Apple welcomed some 23.5m visitors in the first half of 2010, 8.75% more than in the same period last year.

This means that the city is on course to host approximately 47.5m tourists by the end of 2010, which would represent year-on-year growth of 4.2% and set a new record.

NYC & Company chief executive George Fertitta said: 'The first half of 2010 has been particularly strong and our early projections show a return to record-breaking visitation levels.

'Under the leadership of Mayor Bloomberg, we have created the city's first global marketing campaign and developed strategic public-private partnerships that have built and promoted the brand of New York City around the world.'

The city is also on track to achieve its goal of 50m annual visitors by 2012.
