Berlin proving popular among tourists

Berlin experienced double-digit growth in visitor numbers in the first half of 2010, official figures show.
A total of 4.2m people travelled to Germany's capital between January and June this year, representing year-on-year growth of 11.7%.
Visitors spent a total of 9.6m nights in the city, 14.2% more than in the first six months of 2009.
The number of international guests in Berlin increased by 14.5% to 1.5m in the first half of the year, while the total number of room nights for foreign tourists rose by 17.9% to 3.8m.
Burkhard Kieker, chief executive of Berlin Tourism Marketing, said: 'These figures pay a big compliment from around the world to the Berliners and their city.'
He added: 'The steady growth shows that Berlin is one of the most popular cities in the world.'
At the end of June the German capital offered a choice of some 742 hotels and other accommodation establishments providing around 111,500 beds.
