British Airways will further extend its route network from London City later this year with the launch of flights to Chambery in south-east France.

BA CityFlyer will operate the service, which will run four times a week from 18 December until the end of March 2011.

Travellers heading to Chambery, which is one of the main gateways to the French Alps, will be carried on the airline's fleet of new Embraer 190 aircraft.

Luke Hayhoe, commercial manager of BA CityFlyer, said: 'Our schedule is ideally set up to give our customers the opportunity to spend a long weekend, a full week, or even longer, skiing on some of the world's best slopes and resorts.

'Only a few short hours after taking off from London's Docklands, our customers can be in a winter wonderland of 120 ski resorts, all set amidst the majesty and splendour of the French and Swiss Alps.'

The airline recently announced that it would launch its first Scandinavian route from London City this year, with flights to Copenhagen set to begin on 12 September.
