Lisbon named top city break destination

Lisbon is the best city break destination for UK travellers this year, according to a report from Kelkoo.
The price comparison website ranked a number of popular holiday cities based on criteria such as value for money, climate and other important factors for holidaymakers.
European destinations dominated the list, with Lisbon taking top place ahead of Athens, Istanbul and Barcelona.
Hong Kong was found to be the safest destination with 4.3 policemen and only 12 crimes for every 1,000 people, while Krakow, Istanbul and Lisbon occupied the top spots for overall value for money.
The research found that 85% of Britons see affordability as the most important aspect of a city break, with security (81%), weather (78%) and good food (77%) not far behind.
Bruce Fair, managing director of Kelkoo UK, said: 'In the current climate, British holidaymakers seem to be more cost-conscious than ever and the trend for taking shorter but more frequent breaks is still proving popular.
'The extended August bank holiday weekend presents the perfect opportunity for a city getaway and those hoping to secure a last-minute deal might do well to consider Lisbon.'
