The Mummies of the World display at the California Science Center in Los Angeles recently welcomed its 100,000th visitor.

It is one of the most successful paid exhibitions to be held at the venue in its 13-year history.

Reportedly the largest display of mummies ever assembled, the show was opened earlier this year by celebrities including Seth Green, Edward James Olmos and Virginia Madsen and will continue until the first Monday in September.

Jeff Rudolph, president of the California Science Center, said: 'Crowds have been lining up to see Mummies of the World since it opened.

'It has been gratifying to see that so many people appreciate the opportunity this exhibit offers to learn more about the scientific research involved in the study of mummies.'

Located south of downtown Los Angeles in Exposition Park, the California Science Center hosts changing exhibitions throughout the year and also features permanent attractions including an IMAX cinema.
