Travellers visiting Egypt will find that they get more for their money than in many other destinations, according to a spokesman for the local tourism industry.

Khaled Ramy, UK and Ireland director of the Egyptian State Tourist Office, said that the African country represents 'value for money in this critical time'.

He added: 'When you travel to Egypt you pay for five- or four-star hotels, but you get more than anywhere else in the world.

'If you're in Sharm el Sheikh, you have your own beach, you have your own coral reef, you don't have to cross a road. Things like that are very important.'

The spokesman also pointed out the convenience of visiting the country, with the majority of major UK airports hosting flights to destinations such as Sharm el Sheikh, Hurghada and Cairo.

A promotional campaign from the Egyptian State Tourist Office aims to highlight some of the country's unique offerings, such as the pyramids, the temple in Luxor and the coral reefs.
