Dubai attracting more tourists
16 Sep 2010

Dubai's tourism and commerce department has released a report covering the first half of 2010, which highlights the destination's 'growing appeal' as a tourism hotspot.

The emirate's hotels welcomed some 4.2m guests between January and June this year, representing a 9% increase from 2009.

A total of 67,369 rooms were available to holidaymakers, 16% more than in the first six months of the previous year.

Khaled Ahmed bin Sulayem, director general of Dubai's tourism department, pointed out that the destination achieved growth despite the challenges facing the industry.

He also congratulated the emirate's private sector workers and companies.

'This would not have been possible without their sincere efforts and cooperation, especially given the challenges faced by the global tourism industry in general,' he said.

The UK accounts for the highest number of international travellers visiting Dubai.

Britons can now catch Airbus A380 flights to the destination from London Heathrow and Manchester with Emirates.
