Icelandair has encouraged music fans to arrange a visit to Reykjavik this year to check out Iceland Airwaves.

Described by the airline as 'the world's coolest music festival', the event will return to the capital city from 14 to 18 October.

Iceland Airwaves will be celebrating its 12th year with performances by more than 100 artists from Iceland, the UK, Scandinavia and other parts of the world.

Visitors will be looking forward to seeing the likes of Robyn, Bombay Bicycle Club, Moderat and Lay Low.

Gigs will take place at a number of venues in the centre of Iceland's capital city, such as Reykjavik Art Museum, Sodoma, Cafe Amsterdam and Apotekio.

Iceland Airwaves was held for the first time in 1999 and over the years has hosted performances by the likes of Florence and the Machine, Bloc Party and Fatboy Slim.

Travellers can catch direct flights to Reykjavik with Icelandair from London Heathrow, Manchester and Glasgow airports.
