New airport bus service to launch in Madrid

New airport bus service to launch in Madrid
23 Sep 2010

Travellers heading to Madrid will soon be able to make use of a new public transport service linking Barajas airport to the city centre.

Due to launch in approximately one month's time, the bus connection will run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with departures every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night.

Tickets will cost €2 (£1.70), making the service one of the most economical in Europe, according to Promocion Madrid.

The line will end at the fourth terminal at Madrid Barajas airport following stops at the first and second terminals, taking about 40 minutes to cover its 22km route.

Passengers will be picked up from three stations in the centre of Madrid - O'Donnell, Atocha and Cibeles.

The introduction of a public transport service linking the airport to the city means Madrid Barajas joins the ranks of other major European hubs such as London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle.

Flights to Madrid are provided by easyJet, Air Europe, Iberia and British Airways, among other carriers.
