Tallinn 'to become Europe's city break capital'

Tallinn is on track to become the 'city break capital of Europe' in 2011, according to the Estonia Tourist Board.

The organisation made the claim following the news that easyJet would be launching flights to the destination from Liverpool John Lennon airport in April next year.

EasyJet already provides daily connections to Tallinn from London Stansted, while Estonian Air operates a twice-weekly service from the same airport.

A host of events will be taking place in the city next year during its time as a European Capital of Culture.

Tarmo Mutso, director of the Estonia Tourist Board, said: 'Tallinn airport is only ten minutes' drive from the centre of the city, hotel prices are around a third cheaper than many major European capitals, while the quality is on a par with good Scandinavian hotels.

'We are delighted with the airlines' confidence in Tallinn and anticipate that the city will be the city break capital of 2011.'

The director went on to say that Estonia is 'very much looking forward to welcoming British and Irish visitors in greater numbers than ever before'.
