Vancouver wins 'best city in the Americas' award
15 Oct 2010

Tourism British Columbia is celebrating the fact that Vancouver was recently voted the best city in the Americas.

The destination received the accolade at the Conde Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Awards ceremony in New York on 12 October.

Vancouver has now won the title five times since 2004.

Readers were asked to rate cities throughout Canada, Central America and South America on criteria such as culture, restaurants, lodging, shopping, ambience and friendliness.

Kevin Krueger, British Columbia's minister for tourism, culture and the arts, said: 'This award underscores our efforts to showcase our urban life, arts, spectacular sights and wide range of attractions, which make Vancouver an amazing vacation destination.

'This honour … will surely encourage more visitors to discover what the city of Vancouver and our spectacular province have to offer.'

In 2009, Vancouver was named the world's 'most livable city' by the Economist Intelligence Unit and the top city in the Americas in the Mercer Human Resource Consulting annual quality of living survey.

The destination is served by regular flights operated by carriers such as Air Canada, Lufthansa, Continental and British Airways.
