Central Park in New York

New York tourism highlight reopens its doors in Central Park
18 Oct 2010

One of New York City's best-loved tourist landmarks, the Tavern on the Green, has once again opened its doors after being given a facelift.

For years the Central Park institution attracted visitors and locals alike, giving them the chance to enjoy some hearty fare in the middle of the Big Apple.

And, while the restaurant section of the Tavern has yet to be reopened, a revamped visitors' centre is now in place there, with tourists able to sign up for nature parks around Central Park or make use of an on-site gift shop to pick up some souvenirs.

According to CNN, a number of independent food and handicraft vendors will set-up their stalls at the centre over the next few weeks, spelling good news for tourists booking flights to New York for the run-up to Christmas.

Central Park now covers 843 acres of downtown Manhattan and is bordered by the American Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
