Weekend break travellers pointed towards Belfast

UK travellers looking for a destination for a weekend break have been encouraged to consider Belfast.

Fiona Ure, communications executive at the Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau, pointed out that flights are available from various regional airports, making the city a 'handy and affordable weekend break destination'.

She also highlighted the manageable size of Northern Ireland's capital, which makes it easy to explore on foot or via public transport.

'Belfast is a compact city, easily navigated on foot, and visitors using public transport can save money on the city's Metro bus service and rail services with travel cards such as Smartpass and iLink,' Ms Ure said.

'[The city] boasts a great range of family-friendly attractions offering free entry, including the newly refurbished Ulster Museum, Belfast Castle, St Anne's Cathedral, Clonard Monastery and St George's Market.'

A range of free tours are available, offering an insight into locations and landmarks such as City Hall.

Cheap flights to Belfast are available with easyJet, Flybe and bmi, among other carriers.
