New app for visitors to Scotland
25 Nov 2010

Travellers planning to catch flights to Edinburgh, Glasgow and other cities to begin an exploration of Scotland can make use of a free app that has been launched by the country's tourism organisation.

VisitScotland developed the Days Out application in collaboration with Historic Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland.

Launched today (25 November), the tool is available for free download and is suitable for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

It lists more than 1,000 places to visit throughout the country, including Historic Scotland and National Trust for Scotland properties.

Users can also pinpoint the location of more than 300 different restaurants, cafes and bars and make use of some special offers at locations such as the Famous Grouse Experience in Perthshire and Nevis Range, Scotland's highest skiing area.

Other features of the guide include a button that allows travellers to discover different things to see and do based on their location and an A-Z listing of activities in specific regions.

VisitScotland information centres and quality-assured visitor attractions are all pre-loaded onto the app.
