Spring 'a lovely time to visit Europe'

Spring 'a lovely time to visit Europe'
30 Nov 2010

Destinations in Europe are among the best options for people planning to go away to take advantage of the extra bank holiday next year, according to Lonely Planet.

British workers will get an additional day off on 29 April 2011 to celebrate the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

This means that there will be a total of four public holidays between 22 April and 2 May next year.

Commenting on destinations where travellers can enjoy a spring getaway, Lonely Planet travel editor Tom Hall said: 'It is a lovely time to be going to Europe, first and foremost - it will be warm but not too warm, it will be spring everywhere and you will have early summer temperatures.'

He also recommended Marrakech, Istanbul and Cairo before they get too hot, while people planning to spend some time on the beach were encouraged to head further afield to guarantee warmer temperatures.

'Maybe you can head to Goa, Cuba or Dubai or around the Caribbean - it is an absolutely lovely time to be in the Caribbean,' Mr Hall said.

Those looking for something a bit different could consider Colombia or Panama, both of which have featured in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2011 guides.
