Oprah meets Elvis the koala on Australian holiday
9 Dec 2010
Oprah Winfrey arrived in Queensland this week for the beginning of a tour of Australia and received a special welcome from Elvis the koala bear.
The much-loved American chat show host and philanthropist arrived on Queensland's Hamilton Island just before 12:40 local time on 8 December.
During her time on the island, Winfrey attended a party on Whitehaven Beach with Australian musical ensemble the Ten Tenors and celebrity chef Curtis Stone.
She is visiting Australia as part of a tour to celebrate the end of the 25th series of her talk show, with about 300 members of her audience also invited on the trip.
Tourism Queensland said it is 'fantastic news' that Winfrey is visiting Hamilton Island.
In a statement, the organisation added: 'The fact that Queensland is Oprah's first stop shows just how much she has been looking forward to coming here and the benefits of the visit will flow on to the whole state.
'Tourism Queensland is looking forward to showing both Oprah and her guests why Queensland is where Australia shines.'
Two episodes of the star's show will be filmed at the Sydney Opera House during the tour.
