BA expanding operations to deal with snow disruption

British Airways will be expanding its operations in the run-up to Christmas Day in an effort to deal with the disruption caused by the wintry weather that has hit the UK and parts of Europe over the past week.

The airline is putting special measures in place to try to get tens of thousands of passengers to their destinations before 25 December.

Today (23 December) and tomorrow, BA is hoping to operate its full long-haul schedule from Heathrow and normal timetables at Gatwick and London City airports.

Where possible, larger aircraft are being deployed on European routes to carry more passengers, with a 275-seat Boeing 777 being used on services to Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Madrid yesterday.

The carrier is also hiring additional planes and increasing seat numbers on short-haul services from Gatwick and London City to destinations in the UK and Europe.

Chief executive Willie Walsh said: 'I am very sorry for all the disruption and inconvenience that our customers have faced around the world in the past few days.

'Our teams are working around the clock to get as many people where they want to be ahead of Christmas Day and we are doing all we can to increase the number of seats available.'ADNFCR-408-ID-800308940-ADNFCR
