Algarve tourism to receive a boost next year
30 Dec 2010
Some of the less well known parts of the Algarve will see increased popularity next year, an expert has said.
Nuno Aires, president of the Algarve Tourism Board, said there has been an increase in the number of people asking for back-to-basics travel options.
Tourists are showing more and more interest in taking cheap flights to the natural parts of the Algarve and places such as the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, Mr Aires said.
He suggested the location's nearby sandy beaches will be a must-see for people travelling to the Algarve next year.
"We have more than 30 golf courses," he added.
"We are well known internationally. We are well known for the quality of the golf - the service that we provide and the weather is normally good."
The level of growth follows a problematic period for tourism at the beginning of the year, which saw bad weather in January and volcanic ash in the middle of the season.
