Blog details travel 'resolutions' for 2011

There are a number of travel resolutions that holidaymakers can pledge to make to ensure they get the best value out of their breaks in 2011, a travel writer has said.

Writing in a budget travel blog for About.com, Mark Kahler said that travellers should ensure they ask "tough questions" before taking out a travel rewards credit card as they may not actually be fit for purpose.

As well as this, when jetting off on a holiday to Thailand or India or similar holiday spots, travellers should make sure they are aware of any tourist scams currently popular in the country they are visiting.

A common piece of advice when travelling in any country is to avoid ticket touts who hang around train stations and airports, as they often offer tickets at much-inflated prices.

For those really looking to slash the budget, freighter cruises could be ideal, Mr Kahler added.

"Freighter cruises offer advantages to budget travellers: the daily cost on a freighter is often less than even the discounted traditional cruises," he advised.
