Travellers exploring China and the Far East this year will be treated to some special cultural experiences at the 39th Hong Kong Arts Festival.

Due to run from 17 February to 27 March, the event will feature a diverse programme of live productions and performances from the worlds of opera, dance, music and theatre.

Several prestigious companies will be visiting Hong Kong to take part in the festival, such as Beijing Dance Theatre, which will present the Golden Lotus at the HK Academy for Performing Arts from 25 to 27 March.

There will be plenty to interest music fans, including performances by the Halle Orchestra (3-4 March), Elvis Costello (5 March) and Marianne Faithfull (7-8 March) at the HK Cultural Centre.

Another highlight of the 39th Hong Kong Arts Festival will be Power Plant, a sensory experience that the Sunday Times describes as an 'ingeniously playful array of electronic stunts, kinetic sculptures and musical sound effects'.

The installation will be based at Kowloon Walled City Park from 18 February to 13 March.
