Travellers urged to discover Moab, Utah

Adventurous travellers looking for a new destination to discover this year have been encouraged to visit Moab, a town in Utah in the western United States.

The Moab Travel Council highlighted the diverse range of experiences on offer in the destination, with visitors able to hike in the desert one day and go cross-country skiing the next.

One area worth exploring is Arches National Park, six miles from downtown Moab.

Described by the local promotional agency as a "red rock wonderland", the region encompasses more than 2,000 rock arches and other geological formations including sandstone fins, pinnacles and spires.

Travellers can hire a car to explore the park's paved roads or follow hiking trails to visit some of its many viewpoints.

Other experiences on offer include seeing the Needles district and the Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point parks and rafting along the Colorado river.

International travellers interested in exploring Utah can reach the state by catching flights to Salt Lake City, which are provided by carriers such as Delta, American Airlines and Continental.
