Art gallery opens in Tasmania
24 Jan 2011
A new art gallery opened its doors in Tasmania this month, offering some new cultural experiences for travellers visiting the state during a tour of Australia.
The £100 million Museum of Old and New Art in Hobart has the potential to put the city 'on the world map', according to Tourism Australia.
Free to all visitors, the museum has opened with an exhibition entitled Monanism, which will run until 7 July 2011.
In addition to the gallery opening, Tourism Australia revealed that the city of Hobart has launched a free ArtBikes scheme, which invites visitors to explore the cultural scene in key locations.
People planning a trip to the destination can also head online to make the most of smARTmap Tasmania, which highlights the locations of a number of cultural hotspots and galleries across the island.
Another recent development for the state's tourism industry is the opening of the Tarkine Rainforest Retreat, a camp that allows guests to explore the rainforest while enjoying comfortable accommodation.
