Egypt will be a holiday hotspot in 2011, with Britons set to flock to the destination despite rising resort prices, according to Post Office Travel Money.

The organisation released an annual survey showing that sterling has strengthened against both the Egyptian pound and the Kenyan shilling over the past year, meaning both countries are expected to see a high number of British visitors in 2011.

Egypt is also set to benefit from being in a low band for air passenger duty, meaning flights to the country are relatively cheap.

Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Money, said: 'Egypt has been the outstanding mid-haul holiday success of recent years, with currency sales up 5% last year and 110% since 2005.

'We expect to see more growth in 2011 because the Egyptian pound is one of the few longer haul currencies to have weakened against sterling.'

Other trends identified in the report include the rising affordability of Portugal and Spain, following increases in the value of sterling against the euro and reductions in resort prices.
