Travellers spend over 5m nights in Abu Dhabi in 2010

The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) has released figures showing that travellers spent some 5.13m guest nights in the destination last year, 19% more than in 2009.
More than 1.8m people stayed in Abu Dhabi's 114 hotels and apartments during the year, meaning the emirate beat its overall visitor target by 8%.
UK holidaymakers made a substantial contribution to the growth, with the number of Britons visiting the destination climbing 22% year-on-year to 117,836.
A 'substantial expansion' in the range of attractions and experiences on offer to travellers played an important part in the rising popularity of Abu Dhabi in 2010, according to the ADTA.
Mubarak Al Muhairi, the tourism authority's director general, said: 'The introduction of exciting leisure products such as Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, new golf courses and the Yas Island Show Weekends … helped ensure a very successful final quarter and the destination's best hotel guest performance yet.'
A number of events look set to attract visitors to the emirate in 2011, such as the third leg of the Volvo Ocean Race towards the end of the year.
