Virgin Atlantic cabin crew have also been asked to make the engines quieter, tell the captain to stop the turbulence and even help with a search for a glass eye.

Caroline Lynam, the airline's customer relations manager, said: 'Virgin Atlantic crew will always go that extra mile to offer our customers the best possible service but there are some requests that even we find somewhat challenging!'

The carrier operates flights from the UK to 30 international destinations, including New York, Tokyo, Dubai and Nairobi.
