India among winners at Pata awards event

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has announced the winners of its 2011 Gold and Grand Awards programme, with India's tourism industry receiving plenty of recognition.
In the Grand Awards section, Kerala Tourism was rewarded for its environmental achievements through Kumarakom, a travel destination near the city of Kottayam that is known for its backwater experiences.
Kerala Tourism also picked up marketing awards for its 'Your moment is waiting' campaign, while the Indian government received an accolade for a promotional travel video carrying the slogan 'India is awesome'.
New Zealand's Whale Watch Kaikoura received the Pata Gold award for best ecotourism project.
Other winners included Tourism Australia for its 'There is nothing like Australia' campaign, Thai Airways for its 50th anniversary project and the Hong Kong Tourism Board for a guidebook on the city's living culture.
Joao Manuel Costa Antunes, director of the Macau Government Tourist Office, which sponsored the awards, said: 'The winning entries this year have established another benchmark of excellence, innovation and advancement in the responsible development of travel and tourism.'
