New zip line tour in Alaska
9 Feb 2011

Adventurous travellers planning a trip to Alaska in the US this year will have the opportunity to take part in a new zip line tour in the city of Skagway.

The four-hour trip will be available from Alaska Excursions from 6 May.

Visitors will be met by tour guides at the cruise dock and transported to the historic town of Dyea.

A short safety and equipment orientation will be given before participants are invited to ride 12 zip lines of up to 750 feet in length.

The excursions will also provide the opportunity to traverse four sky bridges and take in views of several waterfalls and the forest floor.

Other tours available in the region include dog sled rides through a historic gold rush area and horseback adventures in the Dyea valley.

The Alaska Travel Industry Association also recommended events such as the Stikine River Shorebird Festival, which will provide the opportunity to see snow geese, sandhill cranes, eagles and other birds that gather in the region at springtime.
