March 'a good time to visit Reykjavik'
17 Feb 2011
Travellers considering a trip to Reykjavik this year might want to make arrangements soon for a holiday in March to check out two major events in the city.
The Reykjavik Folk Festival will run from 9 to 11 March, while the Food and Fun Festival will begin on the same day and continue until 13 March.
A number of bands from across Iceland will perform in the capital city at the three-day event, while the longer festival provides an opportunity for local chefs to showcase the country's cuisine.
Sigga Groa, UK and Ireland area manager for Visit Iceland, said this is a 'great time' to visit Reykjavik and experience the passion that local people have for their culinary and musical heritage.
She added: 'The Food and Fun Festival provides a unique opportunity for visitors to taste the very best of Icelandic food as … acclaimed international chefs travel to Iceland to cook in Reykjavik's best restaurants.
'Once visitors have had their fill, they can go and enjoy the music of the folk festival. As an added bonus, the Northern Lights are active this time of year.'
Flights to Reykjavik are available with Icelandair, the country's national carrier.
