New York 'about more than Manhattan'

New York 'about more than Manhattan'
17 Feb 2011

Travellers hoping to get a real experience of New York during breaks in the city have been encouraged to explore beyond the famous sights and attractions of Manhattan.

Robert Wilson, UK regional director for tourism organisation NYC & Company, said that many people equate the city with Manhattan and forget that it encompasses four other boroughs - Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx.

These areas are home to famous locations such as Coney Island and Yankee Stadium.

One of the ways for visitors to learn more about New York City and its diverse experiences is to take a tour.

'All these neighbourhoods are easily explored independently, but for travellers after a more in-depth exploration, it's worth checking out one of the many tours available,' said Mr Wilson.

'These include walking tours, cycling tours, shopping tours, coach tours, food tours, cultural tours … There are tours for every style of visitor covering all the main neighbourhoods.'

The Harlem area of Manhattan has been opening up to tourism recently, with the Aloft Hotel beginning to welcome guests and a range of excursions being launched.
