Copenhagen-based chef named 'best in the world'

Copenhagen-based chef named 'best in the world'
22 Feb 2011

Copenhagen-based Rasmus Kofoed now boasts the title of 'world's best chef' after winning the Bocuse d'Or competition in Lyons, France.

According to VisitDenmark, the contest is seen as the 'unofficial world championship for chefs'.

Mr Kofoed is head chef and co-owner of Geranium, a fully organic restaurant located in the canopy of trees lining the Faelledsparken gardens near Osterbro in the centre of Copenhagen.

Denmark's national tourism agency claims that the chef's victory in the Bocuse d'Or competition is the latest step in a 'culinary revolution' that is taking place in the country.

Last year, Noma in Copenhagen was named the best restaurant in the world at the Restaurant Magazine awards in London, while dining establishments throughout the capital city received a total of 13 Michelin stars in 2010.

Travellers planning trips to the destination to sample some of its gastronomic offerings can also take the opportunity to visit attractions such as the Danish National Gallery and Amalienborg palace.
