Travellers planning a trip to Prague should not miss the opportunity to visit the city's cafes, according to Czech Tourism.

The organisation pointed out that visitors can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee at venues that are connected with some 'outstanding figures' from Czech history.

Cafe Slavia, directly opposite the National Theatre, is one of the oldest and most visited cafes in Prague.

It was opened in 1863 and frequented by artists and intellectuals such as Franz Kafka and Rainer Maria Rilke, as well as the composers Bedrich Smetana and Antonin Dvorak.

At the Art Nouveau Cafe Louvre, visitors can read newspapers, play board games or enjoy a game of billiards while sipping coffee or sampling some of the desserts and vegetarian meals on offer.

Czech Tourism also recommends Cafe Imperial, which is known for a unique interior design that transports guests to the Orient, and Cafe Savoy on the western banks of the Vltava river.

Holidaymakers interested in visiting the Czech Republic can catch flights to Prague with easyJet, British Airways, Lufthansa and other carriers.
