New York exhibition to celebrate Alexander McQueen
24 Feb 2011

The Metropolitan Museum of Art will host a new exhibition this year celebrating the work of fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who died in February 2010.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty will open on 4 May and run until 31 July.

Fashion fans planning trips to New York can pay a visit to the museum to see approximately 100 examples of the designer's work, including signature designs such as the bumster trouser, kimono jacket and origami frock coat.

There will also be a screening room showing videos of some catwalk shows from McQueen's prolific 19-year career.

The exhibition will celebrate the Briton's extensive contributions to fashion, from his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection to his final runway presentation, which took place after his death last year.

Metropolitan Museum of Art director Thomas P Campbell said: 'Alexander McQueen's iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion.

'This landmark exhibition continues the museum's tradition of celebrating designers who changed the course of history and culture by creating new possibilities.'
