Monterey Bay Aquarium in California will offer some new experiences for its visitors this summer with the opening of a new Open Sea exhibit in the Outer Bay galleries.

The display will provide an insight into some of the epic migrations undertaken by marine creatures and the endless movement of life in the oceans.

Visitors will be able to see three different galleries featuring new species including tufted puffins and sandbar sharks alongside guest favourites such as sea turtles, rays, tuna and even the occasional great white shark.

There will also be an area dedicated to animals that are built for speed, like the barracuda, mackerel and sardine.

Senior exhibit developer Jaci Tomulonis described the open sea as a 'dynamic place where life is in constant motion'.

She added: 'Complex forces drive currents which, in turn, influence living conditions for ocean animals.

'The Open Sea galleries bring our visitors deep into the heart of this extraordinary environment through transformed live exhibits, new multimedia experiences and surprising artistic elements.'

Holidaymakers will find the aquarium on Cannery Row in Monterey on America's Pacific coast.
