28 Feb 2011

Istanbul's shopping scene will be promoted at a special event taking place for the first time in the Turkish city this year.

The Istanbul Shopping Fest will begin on 18 March and run until 26 April.

According to the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office, the city is among the world's fastest-growing retail hotspots and has the potential to rival destinations such as London, New York and Paris.

It boasts attractions such as the 550-year-old Grand Bazaar and more than 90 indoor shopping centres, including Kanyon, which is home to luxury names like Harvey Nichols.

The Istanbul Shopping Fest will extend opening hours at shopping malls and high streets throughout the city, meaning visitors can browse until 23:00 local time every day and make the most of discounts on new products from local and international brands.

Travellers visiting Istanbul will also be able to check out some of the shows, concerts and promotions that will be taking place during the festival.

Designers such as Erdem, Hussein Chalayan and Hakaan Yildirim have provided a boost in profile for Turkish fashion recently, while the likes of Arzu Kaprol and Bora Aksu will also be showcasing their products at the festival.
