Finnair carries more long-haul passengers in February
8 Mar 2011

Finnair has revealed that its long-haul services proved a popular option among travellers in February.

The airline experienced an overall year-on-year increase of 3% in passenger kilometres during the month, with the majority of the growth occurring on long-haul routes.

Flights to Asian destinations carried 5% more travellers than in February last year, while North American traffic climbed by just over 29%.

Travellers interested in visiting Asia can fly from London to Helsinki and connect to onward flights to Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo, Sydney and other destinations with Finnair.

Commenting on the airline's plans for the coming year, chief financial officer Erno Hilden said: 'As demand picks up, we have increased capacity on our long-haul routes.

'Part of the additional capacity will be assigned to the Singapore route, which opens at the end of May.'

During January and February this year nearly 1.2m people travelled on Finnair flights across the globe, marking an increase of more than 3% from the first two months of 2010.
