The coming year will be a significant one for museums in Frankfurt, with a number of special events and celebrations set to take place.

At Schirn Kunsthalle, visitors will have the opportunity to be part of the gallery's 25th anniversary festivities.

The establishment has hosted many acclaimed exhibitions over the years and presented work by the likes of Alberto Giacometti, Edvard Munch and Marc Chagall, gaining a reputation as a leading international art institution.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Schirn Kunsthalle is hosting Surreal Objects, a show running until 29 May which features pieces by the likes of Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Rene Magritte.

Frankfurt's Museum of Modern Art is also hosting some special events this year to mark 20 years since its establishment.

Work by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and Joseph Beuys is on display at the museum, while a special exhibition providing an overview of the institution's photo archive will run until 25 April.

In addition to the anniversary celebrations, the Stadel, the German Film Museum and the German Architecture Museum will all be reopening this year following extensive renovations and expansions.
