Top US summer travel destinations revealed

For the ninth consecutive year, Orlando and Las Vegas are the most popular summer travel destinations in the US, according to a survey by the American Society of Travel Agents, which asked its members to list the locations that have attracted the most bookings.

Orlando was ranked first with an 18% share of responses from industry operators, ahead of Las Vegas with 16% of the votes.

Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City also emerged as popular travel destinations for the peak holiday months, while Miami, San Diego, Washington DC, Honolulu and Seattle completed the ASTA top ten for summer 2011.

Association president and chair Chris Russo said: 'Some things never go out of style.

'Family-friendly destinations such as Orlando and a destination that offers the thrills and excitement of Las Vegas are perennial favourites.'

Thousands of families head to Florida every year to visit attractions such as Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, while Las Vegas is famous for its glittering Strip, which is populated by casinos, hotels and countless entertainment venues.
