Trips to Cape Town and South Africa's Western Cape province could become more popular among international travellers as a result of an industry event taking place this month.

More than 100 tourism figures and decision makers are set to attend the destination conference in Cape Town on 28 March.

The main theme of the meeting will be elevating the profile of the region and highlighting its various attractions and experiences on a global level.

Alan Winde, the Western Cape minister for finance, economic development and tourism, said: 'The conference is aimed at providing a platform for the tourism industry to engage on relevant topics that could enhance our destination's competitive advantage to contribute towards industry growth.

'This year's topics include global tourism and travel trends, the city of Cape Town's "mega events" strategy and strategic partnerships.'

Holidaymakers visiting Cape Town can choose from activities such as taking a cable car ride up Table Mountain and visiting Robben Island, while the wider Western Cape region is home to destinations such as Stellenbosch, Mossel Bay and the scenic Garden Route.
