BA begins Marrakech flights

BA begins Marrakech flights
29 Mar 2011

British Airways has launched a new route from London Gatwick to Marrakech in Morocco, which places it in direct competition with low-cost carriers such as easyJet.

Customers can choose from three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays operated by a combination of Boeing 737 and Airbus A319 aircraft.

Richard Tams, head of UK and Ireland sales and marketing for BA, said the new route provides a 'real alternative' for 'discerning travellers' heading to Morocco.

He claimed that the airline offers low fares without the 'stealth extras' used by low-cost carriers.

'Marrakech adds another fabulous destination to our leisure network at Gatwick and I am confident it will be a huge success,' added Mr Tams.

'It's a great starting point to explore Morocco, from trekking in the Atlas Mountains to exploring its amazing deserts and beaches and soaking up the atmosphere of the many medinas.'

The route launch was welcomed by Hamid Addou, chief executive of the Moroccan National Tourist Office, who said that Marrakech is one of the key travel destinations in southern Europe and Africa.
