Vilnius hosting festivals and events

Vilnius hosting festivals and events
31 Mar 2011

People planning a city break in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, will have opportunities to attend a range of major events over the coming months.

The Lithuanian Tourism Office recommends occasions such as Street Musician Day, which will take place in the Old Town on 7 May.

Professional and amateur performers gather in the streets, parks and squares of Vilnius to play all sorts of music, from rock and jazz to avant-garde and folk.

Visitors will be able to learn more about the country's cultural heritage at its oldest international folklore festival, which will feature traditional dances, songs, food fairs, crafts and other experiences from 26 to 29 May.

Another highlight of the Lithuanian capital's 2011 events programme is Culture Night, which will celebrate art and entertainment at the city's museums, galleries, churches, concert halls and other venues on 18 June.

Many other locations throughout the country will be hosting annual celebrations and recognising traditions this year, such as Kaunas, which will provide the setting for the International Hanseatic Days Medieval Festival from 19 to 22 May.
