Virgin joins in with April Fools fun
1 Apr 2011
Virgin Atlantic is joining in with the April Fools Day fun today with a joke announcement that fresh herbs and vegetables will be grown onboard its flights from 1 April onwards.
The airline said that a trial period will see a specially designed 'vegetable patch' installed in the galley of all aircraft for the use of Upper Class passengers.
It joked that the idea for the initiative came from a desire to provide passengers with 'the finest and freshest food and drink offering in the sky'.
Simon Soni, head of inflight services for Virgin Atlantic, said: 'It's a logical next step for five-star air travel. With it being such a simple concept, the sky's the limit!'
The airline said that its new offering would reflect different destinations - with carrots, new potatoes and spinach available on flights returning to the UK and shiitake mushrooms served on journeys to Japan - and even claimed that cabin crew will be attending lessons to improve their horticultural skills.
