Rome hotel prices 'have fallen'
6 Apr 2011
Travellers planning a trip to Rome over the coming months could find that hotels in the city are cheaper than in previous years, according to the Italian State Tourist Board.
Stefania Gatta, a spokeswoman for the organisation, said that accommodation costs in the Italian capital have been falling as a result of recent economic issues.
Many hospitality providers and hotel chains have been cutting rates to ensure they continue to attract guests.
'The prices in hotels in Rome have dropped because of the tourism crisis all over Europe and America,' said Ms Gatta.
'It's always been quite expensive to go to Rome, but now you can find good deals in four- or five-star hotels.'
For people planning a fairly long stay in the destination, one way to save money is to book accommodation outside the city.
Ms Gatta pointed out that visitors can either hire a car and drive into Rome or use public transport, which she said is relatively cheap.
