Travellers with an interest in the history of art can pay a visit to the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco institution during holidays on America's west coast this year to see a new exhibition.

A display of Dutch and Flemish masterworks will be unveiled at the Legion of Honor venue on 9 July this year and will remain on view until 2 October.

All of the pieces in the exhibition are taken from the archive of Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo, who have been called 'the most important collectors you've never heard of'.

Visitors will be able to see paintings by the likes of Rembrandt, Frans Hals and Hendrick Avercamp, which provide an insight into the style and trends of Dutch art in the 1600s.

According to show organisers, the works 'chronicle a 17th-century Holland that served as a model for early American society and culture'.

San Francisco visitors who are interested in more recent cultural developments can pay a visit to the city's Museum of Modern Art.
