New York museum to show night-time photography
21 Apr 2011
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York will present a new exhibition this month featuring images captured after sunset.
Night Vision: Photography After Dark will open on 26 April and run until 18 September.
It will showcase 20th century works inspired by the 'pleasure, danger and allure of the night', according to the Metropolitan Museum, including representations of evocative images such as shining street lamps, dimly lit rooms, night-time rain and early-morning fog.
Two early works by celebrated photographer Diane Arbus that have never been shown before will be among the highlights of the display.
Visitors can also look out for pieces by the likes of Berenice Abbott, Bill Brandt, Brassai, Robert Frank and Andre Kertesz.
All of the photos were captured between 1898 and 2000 and are taken from the museum's collection.
Also opening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art this year is an exhibition celebrating the life and work of fashion designer Alexander McQueen, which New York visitors will be able to see from 4 May to 31 July.
