Dates announced for 2012 Glasgow art festival

Culture vultures will soon be booking flights and hotels in Glasgow following the confirmation of the dates for a major event taking place in the city next year.

Organisers of the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art announced that the celebration will begin on 20 April and continue until 7 May 2012.

Major venues such as Tramway and the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) will be taking part, hosting showcases of contemporary work by local organisations, individuals and artists from abroad.

Full details regarding the programme and locations involved in the festival will be announced in September 2011.

The event was last held in 2010 and organisers are hoping to emulate the success of that outing next year.

Art lovers do not necessarily have to wait until 2012 to seek out some interesting experiences in Glasgow, as the city will be hosting exhibitions such as British Art Show 7 this year.

The touring survey of contemporary work from the UK is coming to the GoMA, as well as other venues, from 27 May to 21 August.
